Today’s featured band melds together elements of experimental, jazz, rock, and funk, among other genres, in a way that is seemingly calculated with beautiful ease. Kiev (Orange County, CA) formed in 2007, and have gained a rapid amount of momentum over the past year with tight, infectious live sets and two EP releases.
They recently worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Gnarls Barkley) on their second EP to date Be Gone Dull Cage + Others. You can pick this up, as well as the band’s first release Ain’t No Scary Folks In On Around Here (recorded earlier this year) both on vinyl right here. Anytime a band releases vinyl, it’s a bonus.
Kiev wraps up a buzz-worthy residency tonight, presented by Indie1031.com, at Central Social Aid and Pleasure Club in Santa Monica with a stacked line-up featuring !!! (DJ Set), RACES (frenchkiss), Touché, and Sick/Sea. The band currently has no shows planned in the near future, in order to focus on finishing a full length album - out spring ‘12.
