Down On The Corner
M83 /// DOTC Today

M83’s sixth album Hurry Up We’re Dreaming just topped KCRW’s Top 50 Chart last week, and is the best album of 2011.  I’ve been wearing it out through headphones (highly recommended) since it came out last month and recently had to pick up a copy on vinyl to complete the experience.

French musician Anthony Gonzalez is the mastermind behind M83, and is not fresh off the bench walking into the music industry.  Since 2001 he’s released six albums, nationally toured with Kings of Leon and The Killers (and Depeche Mode with their “Tour of the Universe”), and even composed a score for a French film called Black Heaven last year.

M83 is killing it right now.  They just added a second Los Angeles show at Club Nokia (after selling out the first date), and tix go on sale at 10am tomorrow right here.  They charge right into a European tour next year (January-March), and wrap up just in time to participate in festival season.

Listen to one of my favorite tracks on their latest release Raconte-moi une histoire, which is translated into English as ”tell me a story”.  Try not to smile when you’re listening…

Also, check the video for their first single Midnight City, which may be the best song of 2011.
