Down On The Corner
ALABAMA SHAKES /// DOTC Today

I present to you Alabama Shakes.  You may not know much about this Athens, AL female lead rock and roll band right now - but I promise you will hear much more from them in 2012.  Taking CMJ by storm, signing with ATO, and selling out small club rooms all over the nation with just a 4 song EP released (full length LP out in the spring), Alabama Shakes are about to grab a lot more attention extremely fast.

Brittany Howard is the catalyst behind Alabama Shakes, drawing comparisons to Janis Joplin and Robert Plant by music industry folks galore.  Her sound is…well…you just have to hear it.  It will stun you.  It will make you cry.  It will have you jumping up and down - dancing like a maniac.  But after all, isn’t that what real, soulful music is supposed to do?  The rest of Howard’s band isn’t going anywhere though.  An incredibly talented cast of musicians that compliment what their leading lady does on the mic to the fullest.

The recent and ferociously rapid success of Alabama Shakes should be accompanied by the thought that they have all been playing music since their teens.  Recently quitting their day jobs to hit the road on their current tour, the success train is just leaving the station - and it looks like it’s going to be fun ride in 2012.

Alabama Shakes are currently on a U.S. tour, and hitting Europe in Feb. 2012.

Washington D.C. friends - don’t miss the 9:30 Club show on 12/31 w/ Drive-By Truckers.  Best way to ring in the New Year.
